Yes, this is the man, the myth, the legend: Gene Kelly. I think
that this is just a random portrait, but it's a very nice one, don't you
think? I like it a lot. (I'd put it in my "happy picture" collection,
I think.) So, [trumpet fanfare like in "76 Trombones"] sit back and
enjoy the following pictures that I have painstakingly found throughout
my nightly Internet searches.

Gene on his own
First we've got a portrait of him as a "young'in"
(probably 30s, actually). I believe this is in the booklet for the
'S
Wonderful CD from Rhino.
Another
young'in picture. This was supposed to be on a mousepad.
(Personally, I don't think that I'd want to have my mouse just traveling
all over Gene like that.)
Okay, this is another publicity
picture, but it came from this Bluebird thing. I seem to recall
it mentioning pantyhose. Go figure.
Not your run-of-the mill publicty
picture. This sucker is autographed!
I must say, I think this is my
favorite picture that I have of Gene. That big smile....
Oh, sorry, I'm back in reality, really.
I think this publicity photo is from Anchors
Aweigh. It's the only movie I can think of where he's dressed
like that.
Gene Kelly as D'Artagnan in Three Muskateers.
(Give me Gene over Chris O'Donnell any day!)
Another Gene
as D'Artagnan publicity photo, this time from the private collection
of Anders Thureson (who, by the way, has his own Gene Kelly page.
The link is on the
links
page.).
Look out! Gene's
got a gun!!! Oh, wait, I'm not sure he knows how to use it! ;-)
This is a publicity shot from The Three Muskateers.
Here's a very nice picture of Gene
in a t-shirt courtesy our good friend Anders.
Another picture from An
American in Paris. Gene's still in his PJs, but he's waving
hello to the people on the street.
Ah, Anders is the man when it comes to great Gene
pictures. This is publicity picture for Singin'
in the Rain (and I love how Gene looks playful in this one, too!)
And, of course he could look dapper when the occassion
called for it! Check
him out in a tux!
Another portrait type one, but I think that it's
more from his directorial
days. But, don't quote me on that, 'kay?
Who says that Gene couldn't relax? Look at
him playing some mean table
tennis. (I'm not quite sure when this is from, but we're gonna
put it right here.)
Okay, this is kinda random, but it was fun.
Here's a completely candid
picture of Gene. I'm not sure exactly why he's pointing to his
Sears purchase, but hey, why not?
Gene in a tux from the movie Xanadu.
Haven't seen it, don't know if I even want to (I have some Olivia Newton-John
issues); perhaps some day I'll check it out.
Gene's
pretty old in this picture, but he still manages to look good!
Sheesh! Oh, this was autographed.
Sorry, I couldn't resist putting this
picture up again. I love it; they're both so cute!
Okay, so this has Donald
O'Connor in it, too. So? It still counts. This picture
was in the booklet for the Singin' in the Rain CD.
Here's Fred and Gene from That's
Entertainment, Too! (I think that's how it's written in the credits).
It's got Gene's John Hancock. (Actually, I think it would be his
Gene Kelly. Well, arguing semantics isn't going to get us anywhere.)
This too is from That's Entertainment, Too!
But, this is Fred and Gene dancing away. (And Fred being, oh, 77
years old is doing a great job as Mr. Kelly's 64-year-old self dances,
too.)
Other Gene pictures
Other Gene pictures
Well, the site where I found this picture says that the woman is Rita Hayworth,
but it's not. It's someone from Pal Joey. Nevertheless, it's
a very nice
picture, no matter what the lady's name is.
Next we've got a scene from For Me and My Gal. Actually,
it's from the number "For
Me and My Gal." Gene and Judy made a great team, don't you think?
This is a publicity picture from Thousands
Cheer. Here we have John Boles, Mary Astor, Gene, amd Kathryn
Grayson. (This is another movie I need to see.)
Another publicity shot for Thousands Cheer, but this is just Gene
and Kathryn.
A publicity picture from Pilot
5 of Franchot Tone, Marsha Hunt, and Gene.
This here is a poster for the movie Cover
Girl with Rita Hayworth. This movie is really cool: it's
got the "Alter Ego" dance (what could be better than Gene dancing with
Gene?) and that catchy song "Make Way For Tomorrow."
This picture I got from "Don't Rain on My Charade" (which is listed on
the links
page), but I had to put it here since I love the number so much!
Here's Gene, Rita, and Phil Silvers singing "Make
Way for Tomorrow."
This here picture was contributed by Mary M. of the Gene Kelly list.
It's a picture of "the
scene" in Cover Girl (don't ask; it's a long story, and I kinda
started it!).
Okay, this is later on in "the scene," after "the moment," when Gene
and Rita dance to "Long Ago (and Far Away)" (a very pretty song).
A publicity shot of Gene
and Deanna Durbin for Christmas Holiday. And, I must say
that Gene looks quite nice here.
This is from Anchors Aweigh; this time it's Gene
at the phone with Frank Sinatra (and the rest of the sailors, so it
looks like) trying to listen in. This scene, by the way, is one of
the Gene Kelly list's rewatch scenes. You ladies who don't believe
me, just watch it and listen to the way Gene talks to Lola, okay?
A promo shot from The
Pirate, which I love; it's one of my favorites!
A scene from The Pirate, with Judy
Garland getting postal on Gene. (By the way, don't you think
that Gene Kelly looks a bit like Mandy Patinkin in The Princess Bride?
It's kinda eerie, at least for me.)
Here's a picture of Gene
with our favorite movie musical producer Arthur
Freed and the one and only Adam Pontipee, Howard
Keel. (Man, I wish I were there when this picture was taken.
Not only to be by Gene, but to hear Howard laugh. Ah, what a laugh...oh,
wait, wrong page!)
More from Brigadoon. This time, it's Van
Johnson, Gene, and Elaine Stewart. (This part of the scene I
find very funny. That Van Johnson cracks me up--especially his "Put
Your Arms Around Me, Honey" in In the Good Old Summertime.
But that's not Gene, so I shouldn't go into it here!)
A picture of Gene and Cyd from It's
Always Fair Weather, which I'm sure is good, but I don't know,
since I haven't seen it.
Here's a signed still from Invitation
to the Dance, which looks très frais (as my friend and I
said in our French V class; it's called "franglais").
This is another picture from the illustrious Mary M. of the Gene list.
After someone asked about Gene
being in a TV version of Going My Way, Mary came up with this
picture. Unfortunately, I don't know who the other two people are.
Here's Frank
and Gene in the '70s. I think it's from a special called "Ol'
Blue Eyes Is Back" or something like that.
So, there you have it. Pictures of Gene Kelly. Just a disclaimer
about these pictures. I really don't have them. I found these
pictures at various sites and on eBay,
the online auction. So, if you want some of these pictures, check
it out.
